Our Story
Florentine Figures
In 1978 when the Holden Kingswood outsold every other car in the country, the precursor to Sydney Fountains and Statues was just beginning. Crosato, a bricklayer from Sydney bought his first set of moulds and started learning the craft of casting concrete statues in the backyard.
Having grown tired of long days laying bricks in the Australian sun, Crosato soon began selling concrete pieces to local retailers. Under the trade of name Florentine Figures, items were sold wholesale to local nurseries and hardware stores.
Over time more and more moulds from Italian craftsmen were bought and a family business was born.
Setback & Opportunity
In the early 80’s around 80% of Florentine Figures’ moulds were stolen, bringing the business close to bankruptcy.
Thankfully the business was saved by the terracotta boom which was occurring at about the same time. This new demand saw Florentine Figures importing terracotta products to remain in operation.
The public’s interest in gardening and DIY projects during the 90's further helped to sustain the business.
Going Online
All 3 Crosato kids, 2 sons and a daughter, later joined and now run the business.
In 2022 the business is opening up and selling direct to the public through Sydney Fountains & Statues—the site you’re on!
